Woodland Secrets
They walked hand in hand
on the soft bed of leaves
created by the ever changing seasons
breaks here and there in the branches
creating a beam of filtered light
The ground was soft beneath their feet
barely audible to the creatures who observed them
Branches formed an umbrella of shade
and a lone bird sang their heart's song
They paused for a moment
listening to the impromptu song of the bluebird
His lips found hers. Her heart fluttered
As the bird spread it's wings and took flight
He gazed into eyes of green
and read the story they told
studied the picture of a soul revealed
and felt the sudden urge to protect the moment
His fingers weaved through hair the color of fire
her lips against his seared the kiss
As if they had been touched with hot coal
he felt her body tremble
Eyes peered from behind woodland hide-a-ways
bearing witness to the birth
Of new love unfolding
paying tribute to the age old drama once again enacted
He pulled her close warming her with his embrace
with no words spoken promising her more to come
she melted into him, fused
they appeared standing as one to those who might have seen
She noticed a single daisy growing in a shaft of light
A gift of the woods and she began to pluck the petals
One by one until there were none
He loves me, he loves me not, he loves me....
She looked up at him memorizing the Kodak moment
In case there would be no others
They turned and walked back towards the day
The woodlands sighed and sheltered the secret
Of fleeting love
Walk
